Product Idea

The original idea of the STRECON stripwound container was to develop a safe tool concept that could withstand the forces in case of overloading (i.e. work environment safety). Today, however, the STRECON stripwound container technology is mostly recognized by its other technical merits.

Because of the strength of the steel strip material, the stripwound container product can withstand a load that is at least 50% higher than normal compression rings. In many cases the tool loadability will be doubled with a stripwound container solution.

When using a winding core of tungsten carbide, the STRECON stripwound container product gets a stiffness of approx. 400 GPa. This is twice the level of a normal compression ring and can in general terms be compared to a ring of pure carbide. No other pre-stressing product has this technical merit.

In general, the product benefits are

  • Improved die insert support by means of a higher interference fit (e.g. 0.7 - 1.1%).
  • Reduced die deflection (or dynamic strain) due to increased tool system stiffness (approx. 30%).
  • Improved die life due to optimized pre-stressing and system stiffness. Often the die life will be improved by 2-3 times of the current average; sometimes even higher.
  • Improved adjustment of the inner diameter of the die insert (i.e. 0.01-0.1 mm) because of the increased tool system stiffness.
  • Fully reliable pre-stressing support to the die insert as the inner diameter of the stripwound container product does not expand. This also means constant and stable pre-stressing of the die throughout the service life of the stripwound container.
  • Long service life of the stripwound container product due to its fully elastic behavior.

STRECON strip-wound Container is a much stronger tool than the normal compression rings

The STRECON stripwound container is a much stronger tool than normal compression rings. This is clearly illustrated by the red curve.
